5 of the Biggest Makeup Trends of 2017
While 2016 was an amazing year for the beauty industry, 2017 has brought about many interesting changes, that are very well loved these days. All of these trends are actually very versatile and they are something that just about anyone can do and appreciate.
1. Setting Sprays
While the Mac Fix+ was all the rage last year, setting sprays have really blown us away this year. All brands are releasing setting sprays day in and day out, and it seems as though we are faced with new releases just about every few weeks. There are now setting sprays for all different skin types, targeting different concerns you may have. A lot of them can even be applied both before and after makeup. For example, if you want a glowing and dewy look and you have dry skin, you can always look for setting sprays that target that issue. The Glamglow ‘Glow Setter’ is one of the best on the market, allowing you to get that summer perfect look. If you have oily skin, try the Urban Decay ‘All Nighter’ setting spray. This will ensure your makeup stays put all day and doesn’t budge.
2. Glossy Lips
While matte lips and liquid lipsticks were all the rage in 2016, and still are, glossy lips are definitely coming up. This year, makeup artists have gone for more of a fresh look, and using a gloss really does help to brighten up a look. These are extremely easy to just slap on; you don’t have to worry about your lips looking dry either. Some of my favourite lip glosses are the Marc Jacobs ‘Enamoured Hi-Shine Lip Lacquer Lip gloss, and the Balm, ‘Read My Lips’ lip glosses as well. These just glide on, and provide wonderful pigmentation and are extremely glossy, but not sticky. The Bare Minerals ‘Gen Nude Buttercream Lip Glosses’ are also amazing; they are completely opaque with a non-sticky formula.
3. Metallic and Colourful Eyeliner
Winged eyeliner was everything last year, but this year, people are definitely stepping outside the box. Metallic and colourful eyeliners are seen everywhere, and add an edge to your look. The NYX eyeliners come in all different shades and provide a smooth and opaque application. Wet n Wild also has tons of variety when it comes to liquid eyeliners. If you lean more toward a pencil eyeliner, try the Marc Jacobs ‘Highliners’. These can be smudged on your upper lash-line or can provide a pop on your waterline. If you have extremely watery eyes, these are the eyeliners you would want to use on your waterline since they do not budge at all.
4. Eye Glosses
While we all loved glitter and sparkle on our eyelids last year, 2017 has brought in the trend of shiny and wet looking eyes. This can be as simple to achieve as applying your favourite lip gloss on your eyelids and blending it out. This adds a slight edge, but looks flattering on all eye shapes and all skin types.
5. Fresh, Skin Based Looks
While 2016 was all about the matte foundations with major focus on heavy eye makeup especially for those glam looks, 2017 has brought a fresh new change. The focus is now on glowing and hydrated skin, with minimal eye makeup. This trend has drawn inspiration from Korean beauty; they place their focus on their skin care and tinted moisturisers, rather than delving into the world of potentially heavy and cakey foundations. These looks are very flattering, and really focus on treating the skin more. The Erborian CC cream is amazing for this because it adapts and warms to the colour of your skin and provides a natural yet fresh glow. The Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum foundation is also wonderful since it is a very lightweight foundation focusing on giving you a glow.
