Hygiene is one of those things everyone is expected to know, but no one ever talks about, and there’s more to it than just wearing deodorant and rinsing with mouthwash

Good personal hygiene is the first step to good health. It not only protects you from poor health, but also shields those around you from suffering illnesses that arise from poor personal habits.

Habits such as washing your hands, bathing and brushing may all look uninteresting and boring, but they all come under important personal hygiene. They make you feel good about yourself and keep you free of bacteria, viruses, and illnesses.

1. Bathe Daily

A daily shower is a must whether you feel dirty or not. A regular bath helps keep you clean, fresh and odor free. Also, do not share your towel, and wash it on a regular basis.

Cleaning your body is also important to ensure your skin refreshes itself, as the scrubbing of your arms, legs, and upper body will slough off dead, dry skin and help your skin stay healthy and refreshed, and will prevent acne, blemishes and other skin eruptions.

2. Clean Your Ears

Clean your ears with your fingers while having a bath. Cleaning your ears is essential to remove germs that can abode in your ear. The use of hair products can build-up on the ear and should be washed off when possible to avoid irritation to the skin of the ear.

3. Care for Your Hair

Washing your hair at least every other day is important to keep your hair and scalp healthy and in good shape. If you suffer from lice or dandruff, then take necessary action at the earliest.

Also, it is critical that you get a haircut frequently for healthy and voluminous looking hair. The longer you wait to get a hair cut, the weaker and breakable your hair can become, especially if it is longer.

4. Trim and Neat Your Nails

Get your fingernails and toenails trimmed once a week. Also, clean under your nails and file down tough spots. Never let your nails have sharp edges. To cut your nails easily, do them after shower. Don’t cut your nails too close to your skin, this could cause infections.

5. Body Scent

Keep your underarms and groin area clean and dry to discourage bacteria.

Change sweaty clothes as soon as possible after a workout. Trim or shave your underarm and pubic hair so there is less surface area allowing for the accumulation of sweat and bacteria.

6. Wear Clean!

Personal hygiene is not just about cleaning your body, but it’s also about wearing fresh and clean clothes. Make sure you change if you have been sweating a lot.

7. Women Face Care

Never go to bed with your makeup on. You could use oil to take off your makeup. Makeup brushes build up germs and bacteria over time. When the bacteria buildup comes in contact with your skin, it may cause a rash or break out. Clean your makeup brushes once a week with a mild baby shampoo and dry them out with towels.

8. Men Need Hygiene Too

Most of us hold on to our razors like valuable assets. Old razors are home to a lot of germs and if you get a razor burn, it could spell problems for you. If you feel the blade wrenching at your skin and not gliding smooth, it’s time to move on.

With all of the above being said, the last thing you should do is to NOT follow any hygiene advice blindly. Each person’s body is different. Some of us sweat more, some of us have oilier hair, and some of us have sensitive skin or deep belly buttons or hairy armpits. You may need to adjust some of the advices in this article to suit the way your body works and reacts.
