1.      Condoms

These are the safest and most commonly used contraceptives. They are mostly used by people because they cause no damage to either males or females. They are also very easy to use and discard.

2.      Birth Control Implant

Birth control implant is a thin rod that is put in the arm of female and it works by releasing hormones in the body for as long as 4 years, without discontinuation. If there is a need for conception, the rod can be taken out.

3.      Birth Control Pills

These are about 91% effective and need to be taken orally daily. These are hormones though and can affect the female’s period cycle. They can also cause other health problems for some women.

4.      Diaphragm

A diaphragm is a shallow cup that is inserted into the vagina while having intercourse. This means that the sperm cannot go into the uterus and mate with the eggs. Hence, preventing pregnancy.

5.      IUD

An intrauterine device is either made of plastic or copper and is shaped like a T. Also known as a coil, it is put in by a nurse inside the uterus. It is a reversible contraception that is 99% effective. It can stay in between 5-10 years. It can be removed any time a couple wishes to get pregnant. Since there are no hormones, it causes no disruption of the menstrual cycle and hence is very safe for women.
