Second polio case of 2016 surfaced in Sindh
Second polio case of 2016 surfaced in Sindh. An 18-month-old girl of Jacobabad district was inflicted with crippling polio virus, it was authoritatively learnt.
This was the current year’s second polio case as the first one – a 34-month old boy – was reported on Feb 9, 2016 from the city’s Gadap Town.
Confirming that the year’s second polio case was detected in Jacobabad city’s Union Council Lashari, Sindh Emergency Operation Centre’s (EOC) coordinator for Polio Eradication and Immunization, Dr Muhammad Usman Chachar, said that the latest victim of polio has been identified as Noor Fatima.
Claiming that the girl had been vaccinated against polio at least seven times, officials said that children with low immunity could be attacked by the polio virus despite being administered polio drops.
He said that the total number of polio cases across the country during the current year has reached six, including the two from Sindh. In all 54 children were diagnosed with polio during 2015 in the country and they included seven from Karachi and five from other parts of Sindh.
