Punjab, K-P and Balochistan students deprived of JPMC training courses
Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) and Sindh Medical Faculty have imposed an unannounced ban on admission for students, belonging to Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, to paramedical training courses since last one year, it was reliably learnt.
Sources claimed that JPMC and Sindh Medical Faculty have imposed an `unofficial’ ban on admission for the students belonging to the three provinces in paramedical training courses although the matter concerning its status is yet to be decided by court.
Claiming that Sindh Medical Faculty did not give a single admission to students, having domicile of any of the three provinces, last year, the sources said that children and relatives of employees working in the health facility were deprived of admission even on open merit basis.
Although over 2000 employees belonging to different province have been discharging their duties in the JPMC since long, Sindh Medical Faculty was reluctant to give admissions to students of other provinces, the sources said, adding the JPMC offers admissions in various training programmes such as operation theatre, laboratory technician, blood bank technician, dental surgery, X-ray technician and dispensers training courses every year on open merit.
However, JPMC’s deputy director (Administration) Dr Jawaid Akhter Jamali, said the hospital was following admission policy announced by provincial health department and, as far as JPMC administration was concerned, it has nothing to do in this connection.
Sindh Medical Faculty’s Dr Nadeem Sheikh said there is no ban on admission of students belonging to other provinces and admission will be given on open merit basis in the JPMC’s various training courses.
