Malignant neoplasm refers to cancer. Cancer can influence any part of the body. Some of the common digestive organ cancers are discussed in this article.

Causes
As with all cancers, the exact cause is not known. There is evidence however, that links some of the following factors to the development of digestive organ cancers:
- Unhealthy diet
- Family history of cancer
- Smoking
- Long-term inflammation of the inner lining or the organ
- Low fiber diet
Symptoms
Digestive organ cancers present with the following symptoms:
- Esophageal cancer – difficulty swallowing, chest pain, weight loss, heartburn, coughing
- Stomach cancer – feeling full or bloated after eating a small amount of food, heartburn, weight loss, stomach pain, vomiting, severe nausea
- Colon cancer – change in bowel habits, weight loss, rectal bleeding, constant abdominal discomfort
Diagnosis
The following tests are used to diagnose cancers:
- Endoscopy
- Colonoscopy
- Neoplastic tissue biopsy
- CT scan
- PET scan
- Exploratory surgery
Treatment
The treatment of cancer depends on its severity and progress. The following treatment options are available for cancer treatment:
- Chemotherapy
- Radiation therapy
- Surgical resection of the cancer tissue
