Skin pigmentation refers to the coloring of the skin. Melanin pigment is made by cells in the skin and is responsible for giving your skin color. People have different levels of melanin in their skin, which accounts for their skin’s overall color. However, the skin may create too much melanin in a specific area, causing the skin to darken. This is referred to as hyperpigmentation.
Cause of Pigmentation
The most common cause is damage due sun. It usually affects the parts of the body that are most frequently exposed to the skin. Other reasons could be pregnancy hormones, medications like chemotherapy, insulin resistance, endocrine disease, etc.
Here are some natural remedies through which you can reduce pigmentation.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Combine equal parts apple cider vinegar & water in a container. Apply to your dark patches and leave them on for two to three minutes. Rinse using lukewarm water. Repeat twice daily to achieve your desired results.
Masoor Dal Mask
Soak 50 grams of masoor dal overnight in a bowl of water. Use a blender or food processor to create a fine paste. Apply the paste evenly over your face and leave it on for 20 minutes. Rinse with cold water and pat your skin dry with a towel.
Red Onion Paste
A simple way to use red onion is by grinding the onion and adding it to an empty tea bag. Apple the to the area of hyperpigmentation, using medical tape to hold it on the skin if necessary. Red onion is considered an effective whitening agent.
Black Tea Water
Mix a tablespoon of fresh black tea leaves into a cup of boiling water. Steep for two hours and strain to remove the leaves. Now, soak a cotton ball in the tea water and apply it to pigmented areas. Apply the formula twice a day for six days a week, over four weeks to achieve desired results.
