Weight Training Can Delay the Onset of Dementia

According to a study, resistance training improves the mental abilities of older people with mild cognitive impairment – a common precursor to dementia.

Chief investigator, Professor Fiatarone Singh, said that weight training stimulates hormones that make muscles grow and it’s possible these hormones are also having similar benefits for brain function.
Participants showed significant improvement in overall cognitive function and the improvements were present after twelve months. If this improvement is shown in future, the number of dementia cases may drop in future.
