Fear of dengue magnifies in Karachi. Officials have expressed apprehensions about the spread of dengue virus in the city. They fear that this year will mark an increase in the number of dengue cases. Last year 6000 dengue cases were recorded with a death toll of 25 dengue victims. Medical experts have commented on the likelihood of a worse scenario this year given that August to October marks the monsoon season in Karachi. Dengue surveillance cell representatives have said that health officials have been appointed to carry out preventative measures across of the city. In addition, the general advice to the population is to ensure that their houses and neighborhoods are clear of any pools of standing water.
