Dengue Surveillance Cell Keeps Patient Statistics Confidential

Due to an increase in the number of reported cases of dengue and malaria, and a shortage of mosquito repellant sprays, the dengue surveillance cell has stopped providing daily statistical updates to the media. It is being speculated that the surveillance cell, headquartered in Civil Hospital Karachi, is attempting to hide the spread of the disease. Lack of adequate facilities to curb the spread of dengue is one of the key reasons for their secrecy. Sources report that last year a total of 5750 cases of dengue were reported in Sindh, out of which 5058 were based in Karachi. 32 patients succumbed to the disease in 2013.
