Got a Tan? Apply These Face Masks for Glowing Skin

Tanning is something most South Asians are blessed with, whether they want it or not. The sun in this region is intense and bright, which leaves us with a layer of tan skin. Now to treat something we need to know exactly what it is. Sun-tan is a term we often use, and find ways to treat it, however do we really know what it is and what we should do about it?

There is a substance in the skin known as melanin. Melanin is a black or brown pigment produced by cells called melanocytes. Melanin gives skin its pigmentation and channels the photons of bright radiation. Darker people have more melanin, and their skin reacts to sun more, as compared to lighter complexions, which usually turn red or pink because of sun

Harmful effects of sun tan:

  • Acne
  • Pimples
  • Fine Lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Dark Spots
  • Hyper-pigmentation
  • Premature skin ageing
  • Skin Burn
  • It can lead to skin cancer in extreme cases

Sometimes sun-tan can give us an uneven skin tone, which we may not like. In severe case sun burn might actually be harmful for your skin. Applying face masks can benefit tan skin. To take care of these issues, there are some natural methods to be used which are beneficial and backed by scientific logic.

Cucumber, Rose Water, Lemon Juice

Cucumber is cooling agent with anti cancer properties. It contains vitamins A, B and C which are important for tan removal. Vitamin A, also called retinoic acid, seems to keep up ordinary skin well-being by exchanging on qualities and separating keratinocytes (juvenile skin cells) into full grown epidermal cells. According to a research by, Pumori Saokar Telang Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that can be used topically in dermatology to treat and prevent changes associated with photo-ageing. It can also be used for the treatment of hyperpigmentation. Cucumber and lemon both are abundant in these vitamins to get you rid of your tan.

Yogurt

You can mix yogurt with lemon intensify the acidic effect on your skin, however make sure you use only a few drop of lemon as it can cause severe irritation and worsen your situation. Yogurt contains Lactic Acid. Lactic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA). AHAs are acids derived from foods, and, as it turns out a type of acid that’s safe to apply to our skin.

Tomato, Corn flour, Yogurt

People have been using corn flour on top of their makeup as a natural oil absorbent for quite a while now. Corn flour can even be applied topically to soothe skin rashes and irritation caused by tan. When corn flour is teamed with tomato, you can get your own tan fighting mask. Tomato is also rich in vitamin C and A, both of which help get rid of tan as mentioned above.

It’s preferred not to use tomato alone as the acidic properties can cause irritation and be harmful. Corn flour and yogurt with neutralize the acidic properties.

Gram Flour (Besan)

Gram flour is exceptionally valuable in regarding a sun tan as it helps evacuate dead skin cells and leaves your skin splendid and youthful. You can use the gram flour powder available in business segment or make a paste of whole green gram.

  • Blend the gram flour in water and rub it everywhere throughout the skin areas that are affected
  • Wait 20 minutes prior to washing if off with water.
  • Do this twice every week for a couple of months.

For better results, utilize rose water rather than plain water. You can likewise blend some lime juice and yogurt into the paste.

Papaya and Honey Face Pack

Papayas contain enzymes, which help in the renewal, whitening, exfoliation and restoration of skin. Papaya contains Vitamin A, C, E and carotenoids. These antioxidants also reduce inflammation of the skin. The keratin in papaya is similar to the one found in high end skin care products which are important for skin elasticity and strength. Honey moisturizes and softens the skin. For this pack, take ½ measure of ready papaya mash and crush it well. Include a table spoon of honey to it and blend well. Apply on clean face and dry for 30 minutes. Wash off with water

You can mix and match the above mentioned products as per your own convenience and make your own face mask for positive effects on your skin. Just make sure you aren’t making something too acidic or alkaline for the skin or something that you would be sensitive to.
