Blood Diseases
Overview
Blood has 3 important components; the red blood cells, the white blood cells, and the platelets. Blood diseases manifest when there is a dysfunction in any of the above mentioned 3 cell lines.
Causes
These diseases are caused by the following:
- Disorders of bone marrow function
- Disorders of the kidney
- Disorders of the liver
- Dietary deficiencies
- Genetic disorders
- Cancerous lesions
Symptoms
Diseases of the red blood cells manifest with some of the following symptoms:
- Anemia
- Lethargy
- Jaundice
- Fatigue
- Difficulty in concentrating
- Difficulty in breathing
Diseases of the white blood cells manifest with some of the following symptoms:
- Immuno deficiency
- Lymphadenopathies
- Splenomegaly
- Hepatomegaly
- Bone pain and tenderness
Diseases of the platelet manifest with some of the following symptoms:
- Difficulty in wound healing
- Bleeding gums
- Skin rashes
- Easy bruising
- Swollen and tender joints
Diagnosis
We diagnose the underlying cause, we can do some of the following diagnostic tests to figure out the treatment plan
- Complete Blood Picture
- Peripheral smear
- Lymph node examination/biopsy
- Bone marrow biopsy
Treatment
- Dietary supplementation
- Bone marrow transplant
- Whole blood transfusion
- Fresh frozen plasma transfusion
- Platelets transfusion
