4 Tips On How To Keep Your Vicinity Clean During Bakra Eid

With the Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Haider Zaidi kick-starting the ‘Clean Karachi’ campaign that aims to clean the city by Independence Day, we need to play our part too.

Let’s not get into the habit of leaving the remains of our qurbani ka janwar on the streets or right outside our homes, waiting for someone to pick it up.

Here are four things we can do this Eidul Azha to keep our vicinity clean:

  1. Put the carcasses in one place

Post-qurbani, carcasses of sacrificial animals are seen lying across streets, almost outside every house. This makes it difficult to cross the streets not only because of the unsettling visual but also because of the odor it leaves.

So, instead of leaving it everywhere, talk to your neighbors and decide on a place everyone can leave their respective qurbani ka janwars’ waste. This will also make it easy for your local municipality to clean the area.

  1. Don’t let the blood flow

While we know that there is a lot of blood on the streets during Bakra Eid, we should take extra care of the fact that no blood is left to be absorbed by the ground on its own.

There are a lot of health risks involved in leaving the blood unattended for hours.

The best thing you can do for yourself and the people in your neighborhood is clean the blood as soon as you are done with the qurbani.

Pour water and choona (lime powder) on top of the blood, and make sure it is cleaned.

Most importantly, try and sacrifice the animal in an area where there is a drainage system available.

  1. Check your local administration’s Eid plan

Checking what your local administration’s clean-up plan is beforehand will let you know how your area will be cleaned during the three days of qurbani. This will also help you understand how you can contribute towards the cleaning up process.

Or, the least you can do is make sure they follow through the plan.

  1. Don’t sacrifice in the middle of the street

Yes, we know not everyone has a big enough house to sacrifice the animal in but that doesn’t mean we use the streets or roads in our vicinity for that purpose.

It is important to remember that doing this doesn’t only give way to a lot of litter being accumulated on the roads but also not everyone is OK with witnessing animal slaughter.

So, instead, this year, get together with your neighbors and rent an empty ground where you can keep all the animals together. Then use the same space for sacrifice as well. This will make it easier for you and your local administration to clean the area.
