Karachi: Dengue Spreading Once Again

71

The time of year has come when the fatal dengue virus spreads, but the administration has yet not shown any intention of dealing with it.

Last year, the dengue virus took 15 lives in Karachi, and like last year, the administration and the Department of Health are least bothered about the virus. KMC has not yet handed over the 24 vehicles for the dengue surveillance, whereas last year’s deployed health inspectors have not sent a single report in six months. The head of the dengue surveillance cell has a list of complaints. The doctors say that dengue mosquitoes can also grow and survive in dirty water and waste. What’s more is that the lack of resources is delaying the anti-dengue drive, and on the other hand waste, sewerage and pollution are increasing the chances of diseases.
