The 3-day anti-polio campaign aims to target 86 union councils in these 16 districts. The estimated number of children to be vaccinated has been pegged at 5 lakh 75 thousand. Police personnel have been involved in the campaign to provide the workers with adequate security. Lady health workers in several districts including New Karachi, North Nazimabad and Gulberg have boycotted the campaign since they haven’t received their due wages yet. They said that they are officially supposed to be paid Rs. 250 which was far too less. They demanded that the stipend be increased to Rs.500 at least. Moreover, the campaign has been postponed in S.I.T.E area and Orangi town due to the killing of ANP member Dr. Zia-ud-din.
