The entire nation observes Eid ul Azha with friends and families.

President Mamnoon Hussain is in Saudi Arabia for Hajj, while Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif offered Eid prayers in Raiwind.

Former president Asif Ali Zardari offered Eid prayers in Sukkur, Governor Sindh Ishratul Ebad in Karachi and Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in Lahore.

A 25-year-old passed away in Rawalpindi after his throat was accidentally slit instead of an animal’s during the religious sacrifice.

The exact details of the incident are not known as yet.

The federal government has extended Eid-ul-Azha holidays for an additional day. Holidays will now be observed from October 15 to 18.

The initial announcement of Eid-ul-Azha holidays being observed from October 15 to 17 received criticism from people who complained that they would not be able to travel to their hometowns and could not offer their sacrifice on the third day.

With the announcement of Friday as an additional holiday, government offices in the country will not reopen on Monday (October 21).

However, cleanliness needs to be kept under consideration for this eid. Time and again, the residents of the ‘city of lights’ have felt disgusted while commuting from one place to another after eid. This scenario gives impression that the city of 200 million people is surviving without a proper administration.

The removal of city district government gave birth to number of sanitation and administrative issues. On the other hand, plans pertaining to recycling of solid waste and electricity generation, which were in advanced stage, were shelved.

Regardless of the political party heading the city district government, the system introduced by Pervez Musharraf served the interests of the cosmopolitan city. Countless activities and opportunities were generated in solid waste management alone.
