Climate Change Will Increase Heat
Outside Karachi, the intense heat wave has also affected the areas of Badin, Khairpur and Tando Allah Yar where the death toll has increased to 11. In Badin, 3 people died in the area of Golarchi and 3 died in Tahseel Matli. While in Tando Allah Yar 4 people died due to severe dehydration, one of whom was a woman. Victims of heat wave are still being admitted to hospital in different areas of the city. Moreover 1 died and 40 fainted due to extreme heat in Khairpur as well.
On top of it all, recently it was stated by an environmental expert that the heat intensity is expected to increase further in the coastal regions. This is due to a phenomenon called ‘The Green House Effect’ which causes the U.V rays to be trapped and so they cannot be reflected back which causes an overall increase in temperature. This climatic change leads to global issues such as Global Warming.
It is also predicted that the coastal areas of Sindh are expected to have 10 to 15 percent less Monsoon, which can be very harmful for agriculture and crops. Furthermore the rainfalls are expected to be very heavy which can prove to be even more harmful because it can be a cause of major floods.
Impact of climatic change and weather like this can cause stomach and skin diseases, heat stroke, high blood pressure and cardiac diseases which is why it is advised to avoid direct sunlight during the day and drink at least 12 glasses of water a day to prevent from getting dehydrated.
