Antigen Test a Game-Changer In Fight Against Ebola

World Health Organization (WHO) announced Friday it had approved a 15-minute antigen test for Ebola that should prove a fast and rugged tool in countries hit by the disease.

The new antigen test, which gives 92% correct results, is a little less accurate than the old PCR test, but it gives results in as little as 15 minutes as compared to the PCR which took up to 24 hours. It entails putting blood on a paper strip which shows positive or negative. The test can be used in remote areas without the need to send samples to laboratories. This test can then be rechecked by PCR test, if required.
