The campaign was launched by IDO Health Dr. Zafar Ejaz and Deputy Commissioner Dr. Saif-Ur-Rehman who administered polio drops to children to kick off the drive. Dr. Saif-Ur-Rehman told HTV reporters that the committee had received several threats regarding the campaign, and stated that the mischief mongers would not influence or intimidate the committee into calling off the campaign. He also said that one of the key reasons for the increasing incidence of polio was the presence of IDP families. Dr. Zafar Ejaz also added that parents should voluntarily approach hospitals and clinics for polio vaccinations. He said that imams at the local mosques should take up the role of creating awareness about the importance of polio vaccinations for the health and well being of children.
