207 Polio Cases Reported In 2014
Despite all efforts to curb the spread of the virus, the number of cases diagnosed since the beginning of the year has been pegged at 207. According to the Department of Health, a cumulative total of 38 crore dollars have been spent in the past 6 years on efforts to reduce the spread of polio. However, within the same time frame a total of 906 cases were diagnosed. These figures were revealed in a national assembly meeting presided by speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq. It was further revealed that the highest number of cases were diagnosed in FATA (136). In the remaining regions, 43 cases were identified in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 19 in Sindh, 6 in Baluchistan, 3 in Punjab. 69 in North Waziristan, and 16 in South Waziristan. In Sindh, the most cases were registered in Gaddap Town (9 in total).
