C Section Aftercare: What You Need To Know!
Today, c section is becoming increasingly common. You may be surprised to know that many women opt for cesarean delivery due to the fear of labor and natural birth. The procedure may be less painful, but it requires extensive aftercare.
If you’ve gone through the operation, there are certain measures you need to take in order to achieve full recovery. Take a look at some of them:
Herbal Tea
C section means that your abdomen will be cut open so that your baby can be taken out of the uterus. Once the abdomen is sewn back, there are chances of a pouch forming that can look unseemly. This is the reason why women are suggested to immediately start using warm water, herbal teas, and warm showers after c section.
As soon as your doctor allows it, stock up on herbal teas. They will remove toxins from the body and help with weight loss as well.
Here’s a simple recipe for herbal tea:
Use a Belt
Wearing a postpartum belt will help tuck in the tummy quickly and effectively. Just be sure to ask your doctor for an okay signal before beginning its use.
Avoid Flatulent Foods
All foods that make you gassy can cause discomfort in your stitches. Hence, avoid them. These include yogurt, spicy foods, rice etc. You only have to give them up for a week or two after delivery.
Prevent Constipation
Constipation can be hazardous for your stitches. This is why you have to add plenty of fiber to your diet. If that doesn’t work, discuss with your doctor and get medicine for your constipation.
Avoid sitting for too Long
The more you sit, the more your stomach will stick out. So, avoid sitting for too long unless you are feeding the baby or sleeping.
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a must, not just to reduce the weight, but to also get your body back on active track. C section does not mean that you should lie on the bed all day. Once two weeks are up and your doctor gives the get go, make sure you start with easy and simple exercise like walking for 15 minutes a day. Gradually increase the time as you get your strength back.
Shower Everyday
Some of the adults in your family may say that you shouldn’t shower for this many days. Please, ignore them! Make sure to shower daily with warm water; as that will help heal c section wounds quickly. Clean the wounds with a soft cloth so as to avoid infections.
Do as the Doctor Says
Your doctor will advise and recommend certain medicines and routines once you are release from the hospital. Follow them religiously! Do not ignore any of these instructions and see a doctor when they ask you to.
