Seminar: Skills and talents of disabled people lauded
Karachi Vocational Training Centre (KVTC) organized first of its kind `Disability Expo’ at the city’s Expo Centre. The event marked the opening of the disability week to celebrate the international day of disability on Dec 3, 2015.
Sindh Finance Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Senator Haseeb Khan and Switzerland’s Consul General in Karachi, Emil Wyss, who visited the Expo Centre, appreciated the skills and talents of handicapped people.
Many training and development activities carried out by KVTC include vocational therapy, occupational therapy, confidence-building, basic education, and skills training. Over 500 graduates, who were trained at KVTC, are currently doing jobs diligently in various organizations of the city.
KVTC team is committed to integrating intellectually disabled individuals into the mainstream society of Pakistan. Since 1991, KVTC has been working with intellectually disabled by developing customized approach for their rehabilitation.
The Expo provided a sense of inclusion to people with disabilities to be part of the event with mainstream public without sympathy, restrictions or limitations of any kind.
A number of activities, including talent shows, sporting activities, arts and vocational skills, taekwondo championship, musical performances, will be arranged.
Badar Expo Solutions’ COO Zohair Naseer said that the KVTC students have proved that they could prove their mettle in any sphere of life.
