Home Remedies For Dandruff

As fall approaches, your hair starts falling with the leaves too. Some people consider it an inevitable consequence of changing weather without knowing the real cause behind the problem. Loss of hair in fall and winter occurs due to dry scalp. Dry weather not only steals moisture from your skin but it affects your scalp as well. Cells on dry scalp start flaking off as dandruff and its traces are seen sticking to your hair, clothes and even pillow.

Unfortunately, dry weather is not the only cause of dandruff. Certain pathologic conditions can also cause dandruff and are need to be dealt with for further production of dandruff rather than solely treating scalp for dry conditions. This includes eczema, seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis and fungal infection involving scalp. Medication is required to treat these conditions while dandruff control treatment is done side by side. This is so because in these pathologic conditions, dandruff represents as the symptoms rather than the main problem itself.

Pharmaceutically, dandruff treatments include shampoos infused with zinc pyrithione which helps kill fungus causing dandruff; ketoconazole a drug which fights fungus; selenium sulfide and coal which slow down dandruff production by slowing growth and dead of skin cells on scalp; and salicylic acid which loosen flakes from hair so they can be washed off. However, even though these chemicals help reducing dandruff they might leave your hair in dull and dry condition prone to falling. This is the reason home remedies are the best cure for dandruff due to dryness. They do not have any side effects. In fact they leave your hair feeling stronger and healthier. So this winter you do not need to go through embarrassing situations or give up on all your black clothing and move around with a hat stuck to your head. We’ve got some help stuff for you.

You can massage your scalp with a few drops of this oil and rinse off. Or better yet, add a few drops of tree tea oil in your regular shampoo (not anti-dandruff shampoo) and wash normally. According to a study published in journal of American academy of dermatology, 5% tea tree oil in shampoo significantly helps with dandruff caused by yeast.
