9 Baby Steps to a Healthier You

Plunging into a healthy lifestyle does not have to mean giving up on meat or becoming a vegetarian all of a sudden. It might mean becoming healthy, but it will surely give you stress. Give your well-being a boost by following these easy baby steps to a healthier you.

Morning exercise

Start your day off right by going for a 20 min walk, hitting the treadmill or doing sit-ups or pushups on a floor mat in your bedroom. Exercise enhances blood circulation, allowing blood to efficiently reach all your tissues and the brain, which in turn makes you feel happier and clearer.

Don’t skip breakfast!

Breakfast is the most essential meal of the day since it fuels you for the important tasks you need to carry out early morning. When people skip breakfast in hopes of losing weight, they are just making things harder for themselves, because by lunch time they will be so hungry, leading to over eating. No matter what, don’t skip breakfast!

Manage stress in 3 minutes!

Whenever you feel anxious, angry or frustrated, take deep breaths. Breathe in to a slow count of five, then slowly release to a count of five. Do it for 3 minutes and you will feel your heart beat get back to normal and that brow sweat disappear.

Untimely fatigue

If you’ve been experiencing late afternoon slumps, you’re probably reaching out to any packet of chips or bars of candies for a quick sugar rush. Plan ahead and carry healthy snacks, some fruit or nuts, and eat those instead.

It’s time for a makeover for your refrigerator

Place all fruits and veggies in plain view outside and stack your shelves with healthy foods like yogurt, salad fixings, and humus at eye level. This way, every time you go looking for a snack or open the fridge, these healthy choices will grab your attention. Also discard any takeout containers and stop eating unhealthy fast food.

If you don’t have time for the gym, no problem!

Being physically active is easier than that. Whenever you take a break from class or work, just utilize the small place in your setting and take brisk walks for about 15 minutes. It’s even better if you do it during your lunch break, and eat an apple after.

Kill depression

With every passing year, the number of reported cases for depression and increased anxiety levels are shooting up. Combat your sadness by loving yourself. Before you blame yourself for all the negativity in your life, make sure you are not surrounded by people who constantly bring you down and degrade you.  Instead, choose to surround yourself with people with a positive aura. These usually are people who talk about ideas and productive things to do. They’re not hard to find-just make sure you’re looking at the right places.

Allow yourself to be less than perfect

Holding on to unrealistically high expectations and then beating yourself up over not meeting them will do you no good. Remember: To err is human.

Sleep well

Set a sleep schedule to overcome insomnia (sleeplessness). Establish a sleep schedule and stick to it. Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day. A good night’s sleep is excellent for a stable mood.
