The oral cavity is an extremely important region of the body, as it is the passageway to the GIT. It is important to maintain proper oral health and hygiene of the oral cavity. Some of the most common disorders to affect the oral cavity are:
- Cold sores
- Canker sores

- Dry mouth
- Gum or tooth problems
Causes
The main causes of these disorders can be listed as the following:
- Poor oral hygiene
- Decreased immunity
- Smoking
- Genetics
Symptoms
The symptoms associated with poor oral health are:
- Pain
- Inflammation
- Decreased salivation
- Inability to take food
- Bad breath
- Dental caries
Diagnosis
To diagnose problems related to oral hygiene, a physical examination is the most important diagnostic tool.
Treatment
Treatment involves improving the overall oral health and hygiene of the patient. Some topical salves can be used to treat ulcers/sores in the mouth.
