Hospital receives Rs195m as funds: People in Rawalpindi rejoice

The Benazir Bhutto Hospital Rawalpindi has received Rs195 million worth of funds by the government of Punjab, so that advanced medical equipment and a pediatric intensive care ward could be bought and established.

The hospital has faced many problems in the past at its emergency stations, where on one instance, 80 patients were supposed to be admitted with just 60 beds available. The hospital has also faced a shortage of technical and non-technical staff and there were not enough incubators for the newly born.

This issue was recently taken under consideration and the government of Punjab approved to provide funds to fulfill the needs of the hospital.

The hospital will receive Rs140.5 million for the up-gradation of Benazir Bhutto Hospital’s laboratory and different wards of the operation theatre and Rs50 million have been approved for the intensive care unit.

The superintendent of the hospital, Dr Asif Qadir Mir, said that the funds will be used to upgrade the pediatric ward for better treatment and there will be a separate intensive care ward of 10 beds.

According to the reports, these funds were approved on the request of the hospital management and the work will begin soon.

The emergency ward will also be upgraded, using the remaining funds. The proper allocation and approval of funds will help in serving the patients better.

Principal Professor Mohammad Umar of Rawalpindi Medical College said that the hospital will also be buying 20 more ventilators.
