8 Reasons Why You Should Eat Peppermint
Although medicine has evolved through the years in ways we could not have imagined a thousand years ago, our roots still hold their ground. Herbs and plants used for treatments by our great grand mothers have benefits we cannot and should not ignore. This article is about Eat Peppermint (podina) and its benefits.
Cold and Flu
A research in University of Maryland Medical Center (2011) shows that peppermint thins mucous and causes breakdown of sputum: this helps in easy breathing during flu and helps relive its symptoms.
High in menthone, menthol and menthyl acetate, peppermint oil can inhibit the bacterial virus and can stop the toxins emitted from the bacteria from causing any more damage to the body if the infection was already in process.
You can massage 2-3 drops of peppermint oil onto chest or drop into a humidifier and take steam to help clear sinus and lung congestion.

Peppermints acts against bacteria such as H. Pylori, E. Coli, Salmonella, etc. These bacteria cause inflammation in the gastro intestinal tract resulting in irritable bowel syndrome. Peppermint tea or oil in return soothes the GIT muscles and cause them to relax.
A research in January 2004 issue of “Digestion” showed that, participants suffering from an upset stomach who used an active peppermint treatment experienced significantly less gastrointestinal issues after just four weeks.
Peppermint regulates the flow of bile and helps digest fats fast.
Bloating/Flatulence
Besides infections, having peppermint tea can help with gas problems often caused by eating heavy meals. It relaxes smooth muscles and helps passing of gas easily.
Headaches
If you are prone to headaches, peppermint oil should be must in your bag. According to a study published in the March 2010 issue of the “International Journal of Clinical Practice,” it was found that menthol in peppermint can be a safe, effective treatment for the common headache and migraine. Rubbing peppermint oil topically can help relieve headaches. With a small amount of almond or other carrier oil and a drop of peppermint oil, rub on your temples, forehead, over the sinuses (avoid contact with eyes), and on the back of the neck to help soothe headache and pressure.

This opening of pores cause a soothing warm feeling to tired muscles and joints. Adding 2 drops of peppermint oil in a warm bath can help reduce muscle stiffness.
