It looks like Science has finally caught up with my grandmother’s ‘totkas’. It is easy to dismiss old remedies our mother and their mothers swear by because these days, with all the information a click away, everyone seems to think they know better. But sometimes it’s better to just give in because with years of experience under their belt, our elders know some stuff the internet hasn’t quite caught up with, yet. One such example is Olive Oil.
This simple household item has been used for years and years by queens and actresses to maintain their beauty. In my house, it was quite normal to use olive oil for just about any skin related issue. Nowadays, with the world turning to natural and less harmful beauty products, olive oil has finally found its spot light. From celebrities to beauty gurus, everyone has been discovering a new and unique way to incorporate it into their beauty regimen. Given below are 8 ways olive oil can make you more beautiful.
1. Hair Treatment
Olive oil is a great addition to hair masks and shine serums to bring back life and bounce to the hair. One way to do this is to leave it in the hair for a few hours before showering. This will instantly make the hair smooth and tangle free. Make a hair mask with 3 tablespoon olive oil to a ½ cup of yogurt and with 1 beaten egg. Apply this mask to the hair for an hour and shampoo later. This is the best DIY protein treatment for hair.
2. Healthy Cuticle Treatment
Olive oil can be great for yellow, brittle nails. Just soak your fingers in a cup of slightly warm olive oil for 5 minutes every day or every other day and see the magic happen right in front of your eyes.
3. Makeup Remover
Since it is known to provide instant moisture and soften the skin, olive oil can be great as a makeup remover. It won’t be too harsh on the skin and will help eliminate dust and dirt from within the pores. Soak and cotton pad in oil and gently wipe off the makeup. If a more heavy duty removal is required, just massage the oil on to the face and wipe using a wash cloth, with gentle strokes.
4. DIY Scrub
By mixing olive oil with granulated brown sugar, you can create a great scrub that is both nourishing and cleansing. This can be used on the body, for example for cracked heels, elbows or knees. It can also be used as a lip scrub to get rid of chapped lips and get that perfect pout.
Olive oil is a powerful ingredient of anti-aging skin care products; rich in antioxidants, it prevents skin aging, the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. It also nourishes, rejuvenates and protects the skin. Pat it around the eyes every night before bed.
6. Treat Sun Burn
With its soothing and nourishing properties, sun burns can also be treated by lightly dabbing the olive over the affected area.
7. Olive Oil Bath
Taking baths in olive oil is also another secret to enhance your beauty. You can achieve this by adding 4 to 5 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil to the bath water and you are good to go.
