Why Women Find It Difficult to Lose Weight?

Is it really hard for women to lose weight, and if yes, what should they do?

Many women feel that they have a hard time shedding those extra kilos, whereas a man can skip a coffee and lose 5 pounds. Here are reasons why this happens:

  1. Women adapt to calorie restriction quicker than men. In addition, because of evolutionary purposes, women have a more vital defence mechanism against starvation for reproductive purposes.
  2. Women have much lesser Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR), Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), and 24 hours energy expenditure for the same amount of activity.
  3. Women also burn much lesser fat for energy than males and tend to store most dietary fat as fat.
  4. Females carry approximately 10-12% total body fat and about 5% less total muscles mass than men. So, a man of the same height and weight as that of a woman would look comparatively leaner.

Despite so many obstacles, how can women make their progress better?

  1. Eat right! Many women go on a large calorie deficit to lose weight quickly. This might help in a short period of time, but this won’t show results in the long run.
  2. Females must not just diet but exercise as well.
  3. Taking advantage of diet-induced thermogenesis can be beneficial. This can be done by increasing protein intake, which has the highest thermic effect on food.
