Like several vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower, cabbage is not easily digestible by the enzymes present in our body. That is why when the vegetable reaches the colon you feel bloating, or find you belching. This is all due to the fact that you enjoyed a big helping of cabbage with your favorite food. Having a lot of cabbage throughout the day can have devastating results on the thyroid, the cabbage can become a nuisance and interfere with the functions of the thyroid. This is due to the fact that the cabbage causes a deficiency of iodine in the body thus there is less iodine for the thyroid to proceed normally. Constant use of this vegetable and you can develop several problems related to thyroid such as hyperthyroidism. Some people have digestive problems and ailments such as bowel syndromes, so they should stay clear of the dreaded cabbage. With high levels of indigestive sugars present in cabbage, people might suffer a lot. The fiber present in the cabbage is beneficial, but only when taken in small amounts. The excess fiber and sugar may cause intestinal problems and diarrhea. That can be very painful for the person suffering from it.

Regulating blood sugar is very necessary in the body else it can cause diabetes. While cabbage does in fact have the ability to control the blood sugar levels of the body and prevent diabetes. According to endocrinologist Dustin Henderson, consuming large amounts of the leafy vegetable can result in sugar levels dip dangerously low. This can be a major cause of hypoglycemia if not careful. It can easily be dangerous for blood sugar levels, that is why it’s best to know that cabbage might be a friend, but can be very dangerous in the longer run.
