Polio eradication efforts faced another monumental challenge as 4 new cases were found in Peshawar in a single day, bringing the total amount to 43 cases in a year. The authorities also said that if 15 more cases are reported, the total would cross the golden number of 58 polio cases reported last year in Pakistan. The number of P1 type of Polio cases in North Waziristan has risen to 14.

WHO has declared Peshawar the largest reservoir of polio. Pakistan is 1 of the 3 countries in the world in which polio is still a crippling epidemic. According to AFP, the areas in which polio is contained are dangerous for health workers. This is what’s making it difficult to control the epidemic.
