KPK Government Announces Free Health Insurance Program for Patients

The KPK government has begun a health insurance program for poor patients, in which the provincial government would bear operation charges and medication costs.

The KPK government has made an agreement with an insurance company. According to the program, the poor and needy would be issued health cards, which would enable free treatment of common diseases and accident victims. In this five year program, every member of the poor family would be able to receive treatments up to 25,000 per capita, each year. Every person with an income up to one dollar per capita would be able to receive this benefit; the statistics would be taken from the Benazir Income Support Program. The program will cost Rs. 1.39 crore, of which Rs. 1.33 crore will be provided by the German government.
