The KMC administrator has yet to take action regarding salaries to be given out to employees since September. The employees faced difficulties coming to work due to lack of funds while Saqib Soomro has opposed contracts to be renewed regarding the employee’s job extension.

Taking notice of not submitting staff salary bills to the Finance Department on time by some departments, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Administrator Shoaib Siddiqui said action would be taken against negligent officers.

He said payment of salaries to all the employees before Eidul Fitr was arranged by the KMC but it was reported that some of the departments did not submit their salary bills in the Finance Department, said a statement on Tuesday.

He again directed such departments to send their staff salary bills to the Finance Department for payment ahead of Eid.

Meanwhile, Siddiqui after not getting prompt reply from fire brigade help line 16 suspended the services of Sub Fire Officer Tausif and also directed to issue a show cause notice to Chief Fire Officer Tehsin Siddiqui.

In a meeting to review the performance of Fire Brigade Department, he also directed that the fire tenders during fire extinguishing operation would obtain the fuel and water from nearest petrol pump and hydrant. It was also made mandatory for every fire brigade worker to wear his uniform while on duty. Shoaib Siddiqui said that the fire brigade was considered an important organisation and therefore it must be very efficient and strong.

He also directed the chief fire officer to hold “darbar” in every fire station attended by all the fire officers and firemen in their full uniform.

He said the problems of fire brigade would be solved but this department too was responsible for taking timely action anywhere in the city and put off fire as soon as possible.

He said the shifting system should be managed in such a way that the first shift workers must stay before the change of duty and if required take immediate fire extinguishing action without waiting for the shift change.

He also directed that the chief fire officer would get there and obtain water from nearest hydrant. The Administrator KMC said the fire brigade must be very active and prepared for instant action.
