Under the Prime Minister’s Tuition Fee Scheme, the federal government has announced that all new university admissions will be funded for the approved mandatory charges and tuition fee in advance by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

The government feels this new ruling is justified. The objective is to increase the outreach of this scheme and to facilitate those students who have applied in universities under the same scheme. Under this scheme, students from less-privileged backgrounds who are eligible for admissions on the basis of merit will be able to pay for their tuitions.

This will take in effect for the 2015-2016 financial year.

Areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa such as Kala Dhaka, Lakki Marwat, Kohat, Torghar, Hangu, Bannu and Karak have been ensured the facilitation of this ruling.

An investment of up to Rs1.8 billion has been initiated for this new scheme that will be used to pay tuition fees in advance for the Fall 2015-Spring 2016 school year. This scheme encourages meritorious and needy students to receive their rightful education and apply for higher studies, and to not worry about university debts.

This scheme will include tuition fees, examination fees, laboratory funds, admission and registration fees as well as fees for masters, PhD and MS/MPhil research students.

Students, who believe their merits deserve higher education but cannot afford it, can apply through the Student’s Web Portal of the scheme. The admissions will be based on merit and the concerned university will verify their eligibility and authenticity and the funds will be given out to the university by HEC accordingly for students who are eligible.
