Dengue season has hit Karachi in full force. Unfortunately, the city and its hospitals are not suitably equipped to deal with this situation. While private hospitals still fare better treatment for this disease, government hospitals have reported that they do not have the required kits for diagnosing and treating this disease. For the past 6 months the provincial dengue program has not been proactive or responsive to requests of information sharing and actionable plans to curb the spread of this horrific disease. Experts have said that a city-wide fumigation campaign and availability of platelets is essential to treat and prevent dengue cases. We hope that this problem will be resolved soon so that people can start living a fear-free life.
