It’s 2021 – Things to Normalize ASAP

The year 2020 was a roller coaster for all of us. We learned a lot about ourselves, our surroundings, and our world during self-isolation. The past year taught us to change our views, be empathic towards others and change our thought processes and stereotypical perceptions that have been passed down to us! Well now that it’s 2021, let’s focus on things we need to normalize asap.

Normalize fact that women ‘being courageous’ is not a masculine trait

In this toxic world, women tend to believe that they shouldn’t show courage or stand up for themselves. But we need to debunk these perceptions. We need to normalize women leading the way and being courageous.

Normalize men doing their share of household & parenting duties

Historically, women have been expected to serve as primary providers of “caretaking” work, which includes parenting or caring for the household. But the reality is men are also significant providers of care work within their families.

Normalize women being happy after divorce

Women getting a divorce is often looked at as a sign of failure. But it is better to say goodbye to an unhappy marriage rather than failing as a couple. And, who said women can’t stay happy after divorce?

Normalize men being sensitive & empathetic

Men often perceive that showing emotion, being sensitive or empathic means that they are turning into a woman. It’s okay for men to show emotions or cry from time to time. This only shows that they are human.

Normalize women prioritizing themselves

Most women are taught from an early age to take care of their families. And while doing so they often forget to take care of themselves. Engaging in self-compassion and self-care is really important to create a good life.

Normalize men choosing caregiving professions

When we talk about nurses, the first thing that comes to our mind is female nurses. But the gender role dynamic has been shifted. Men have been playing a significant role in actively contributing to the care economy.
