6 Beauty Hacks that will make your products last longer

products tips

Every time I thought my makeup collection was complete, it would so happen that one of my old products would run out and I’d have to replace them. Since my mom pays for most of my ‘ventures’ I would have to listen to an hour long lecture about responsibilities, loose hands, carelessness, ‘money don’t grow on trees’ etc. So from a very young age I started using these six amazing beauty hacks that made my make up last much longer than normal. If you’re as crazy about makeup as myself and believe no amount of products can be enough, these hacks will surely help you save a few bucks so you can invest in new products. Hope these will be as helpful to you as they are to me.

1. Extending your foundation life by adding a little moisturizer to it.

This is the holy grail of hacks. My foundation would last for days and I’d get the perfect light weight tinted moisturizer required for everyday wear. This is also very helpful in utilizing the last few drops of foundation that stick to the walls and bottom of the bottle.

2. Adding saline solution to mascara.

This was kind of an impulse decision for me. As a regular mascara wearer, nothing is more distressing to me as when my favorite mascara starts to run out or dry out. One such day I took some of my contact solution and put a few drops into my tube and viola! My mascara was as good as new.

3. Putting a bit of remover to old nail polishes to make them thinner.

This is a very uncommon practice I was told some few years ago but one I swear by. Many of my favorite nail colors would just dry out or separate or become downright inapplicable. In such times, I would add just a few drops of nail polish remover to the bottle, close the cap and rub it between my palms for a few minutes. The nail polish becomes as smooth and easy to apply as ever!

4. Using old lipsticks to make lip balms.

This is a very common practice in our household. Even my mom gives me all of her old almost finished lipsticks so I can utilize every last bit of it. Scrape all the left over lipstick out of the tube and heat in the microwave for a few seconds till it’s all runny. Now take some Vaseline or any other petroleum jelly, heat it to make it runny and mix the two together. Put this mixture in an old lip balm container and you have a new tinted lip balm. I personally deviate towards lip balm for daily wear more than lipsticks, so this is absolutely perfect for me.

5. Using rubbing alcohol to press broken eye shadows.

A broken dusty eye shadow is a big pet peeve of mine. So this hack is quite a blessing for someone like me. Just add a few drops of running alcohol to your broken shadow, and press it with the back of a spoon to compress it. This doesn’t change the color of the eye shadow as the alcohol soon evaporates.

6. Store your nail polishes in the refrigerator to extend their life.

With this hack, your fridge may look like an Essie showroom but believe me it’s quite worth it. Every nail polish needs just the right temperature to live a full life, so to say. The temperature of the fridge is just right to prevent the nail polish from either drying out or curdling.
