Two words: Meryl Streep. Need we say more? Okay, perhaps we should say more. Based on two-real life stories of infamous chef Julia Child and blogger Julie Powell, which unfolded in different time periods, Julie and Julia intertwines their stories to a bittersweet effect. The film follows Child’s journey of bringing French cuisine to the American public during the 1960s and parallels it with Powell’s challenge to cook all the recipes in Child’s first book during the early 2000s. The twist: Powell assigns herself 365 days to cook up 524 recipes from her tiny apartment’s kitchen. - It’s Complicated (2009)
