Talcum powder usually revives hazy memories of baby bathes and the smell of your grandmothers’ hugs. Yet it has many other uses which you’ve never even thought of!
- Talcum powder also really helps remove grease stains. If you accidently get grease or oil on your clothes, just shake some talcum powder on a cotton ball and dab at the stain. Keep on doing this until the stain is gone completely, then wash the item like normal.
- Talcum powder also prevents chafing. If you’re fond of running, especially in the summer, you may be more prone to chafing. Just dab some baby powder in the places where you’re usually chafed. It will also lessen the amount of friction when you run so your skin will remain smooth.
- Talcum powder also has many uses as makeup. It makes your eyelashes appear thicker. You lightly coat your eyelashes with powder before applying mascara. The talc acts as a primer which makes your lashes look fuller and longer. Talc also absorbs facial oils and therefore acts as a primer to help set your makeup for the day. Talcum powder can also be mixed into bronzer to lighten it when it’s too dark to match your skin tone.
- Talcum Powder can be used to cool your sheets in the summer months as well. Just sprinkle some powder between your sheets for a little while before going to bed. The talcum powder really helps in cooling your bed and also makes your sheets smell amazing!
- You can also use talcum powder to remove sand from your clothes or car easily. Just dab the powder on places where you have sand sprinkled on you and wipe it off. The other liquids like sweat, oil and water that cause sand to cleave you will also be absorbed by the powder so that the sand can easily be removed from your skin.
- Talcum powder can also be used as an alternative to dry shampoo. Dab some powder on your comb and run it through your hair, being careful to distribute it evenly. Also sprinkle some beneath the top layer of hair near the roots to absorb excess oil as dry shampoo does. If you have dark hued hair mix some cocoa powder with the talc, and if you’re a redhead, add some cinnamon.
- Talcum powder can also be used to freshen shoes and moldy books. If you, or someone you live with, has a tendency to have smelly shoes, just lightly sprinkle powder in them and let it remain there overnight. In the morning shake the powder out. In this way it will have absorbed and killed the bad odors, leaving your shoes smelling good. The same can be done to books which have grown mold due to being stored in damp places. First let them dry, then lightly dust them with baby powder. Stand the books upright and let them be for a few hours or a day. Afterwards, they will feel and look newer and mold free!
- Talcum powder is also surprisingly useful in untangling necklaces. Just lightly sprinkle the bit of the chain which is tangled, ensuring the powder reaches every nook and crevice. The powder will relax the knot a little bit, allowing you to undo the snag without kinking or breaking the chain.
- Talcum powder acts as a moisturizer to soothe dry skin and also helps treat eczema. You can rub a little baby powder if you have areas of irritated skin. You should also keep the powder close by all the way through the summer and winter months when your skin has a tendency to get dried out.
- Talcum powder loosens up playing cards. Adding talc to cards makes them much easier to deal and prevents them from sticking together. When you buy a new pack of cards, seal them in a Ziploc bag along with a few pinches of talcum powder and shake well. Once you shake off the extra powder the cards will be silky smooth and much easier to shuffle. As an extra benefit, they also smell great!
