As soon as winter arrives, cold and dry weather starts to wreak havoc on your strands, leading to split ends and breakage. It happens to all hair types and tends to weigh down your hair. In order to have a lustrous and beautiful mane all year long, there are a few precautions you should take throughout the year but especially in winter.
1. Shampoo Less Often
Sure you can go for sulphate free and less harsh shampoos but during winter your scalp gets very dry so it’s best to keep shampoo-ing to whenever it’s absolutely necessary. It’s also important to watch what you’re eating because it directly affects your scalp – it is advised to have dry fruits and hydrating juices to have a healthy scalp.
2. Take Protein Treatments Frequently
For well moisturised and hydrated hair, visit your salons frequently for protein treatments. It will prevent your hair from weighing down and being lifeless during winters. You can also try hydrating oil treatments at home with a mixture of several oils such as almond, coconut and olive.
3. Use Leave-In Conditioner For Anti-Static Effect
- 1 oz. coconut oil
- 2 oz. aloe vera gel
- 1 tsp. avocado oil
- ⅓ cup water
These ingredients add shine to your hair and prevent breakage. Avocado soothes your scalp if it’s dry and flaky while coconut strengthens the roots.
4. Ditch Platinum Shades For a Darker Hair Dye
Winter is the right time to forgo light hair colors and instead opt for dark shades because they are less harsh on your scalp and require less maintenance also. It is important to keep chemical usage to bare minimum during winters because your scalp is already dry and flaky. Harsh chemicals and styling only makes it worse.
5. Replace Satin with Cotton Pillow Covers And Hats
During winter, it is key to keep your hair away from harsh conditions. For that purpose, it is better to use satin pillow covers rather than cotton because it is less harsh for your hair. Since your hair becomes brittle during winters, you should take all the measures to prevent it from breakage. If you are fond of hats and prefer wearing them the cold weather, make sure the quality and fabric of the hat is smooth (preferably satin).
