World Osteoporosis Day Celebrated on 20th October 2014
Pakistan, along with the rest of the world, celebrated world osteoporosis day on the 20th of October. This awareness day is officially promoted by the World Health Organization. Osteoporosis is caused by a calcium and vitamin D deficiency which leads to brittle bones. The disease becomes evident slowly and gradually, and is often diagnosed when it has already progressed enough to cause bone fractures. To avoid the disease, experts recommend getting ample exposure to morning sunlight, regular exercise, eating fresh vegetables, and consuming dairy foods such as milk, yoghurt and cheese.
