World Mental Health Day is being celebrated on a global front to raise awareness about mental health illnesses. Pakistani experts shared their knowledge about the prevalence of mental health diseases in the country. They stated that up to 34% of the population suffers from depression, while an estimated 1% suffers from schizophrenia. The incidence of depression is increasing day by day with every third person suffering from this debilitating illness at some point in their lives. If depression is not detected and treated early on, it can manifest itself in other physical ailments and lead to a steadily diminishing quality of life for the patient.
