New cement factory opens in Ethiopia - one of Africa's fastest-growing nations

Up to 25,000 industrial units are located in and around residential areas in Gujranwala. Despite strict orders from the provincial government, factories are still being set up in residential areas. Corruption and bribery has paved the way for these industrial units to be granted an NOC with ease. Residents are especially fearful of factories that make use of flammable materials because of the danger of explosions. Such explosions have occurred in the past too. In addition, pollutant laden smoke is emitted from these factories, amplifying the danger of numerous infections and diseases. Gujranwala is not the only district facing this issue; Sialkot, Gujrat, Mandi Bahaouddin, Hafizabad and Narowaal are also in a similar predicament.
