Since the beginning of the year, 6 people have died in Karachi due to the naegleria virus. The committee appointed to investigate naegleria in the city has so far tested up to 2094 water samples from various parts of the city. 1473 samples have revealed little to no chlorine presence. In fact, samples collected from 108 water pumping houses (run by the water board) also revealed little to no chlorine. Lack of chlorine is one of the key reasons for the spread of this deadly virus in the city.
