A five-day-long holiday can bring a smile to anyone’s face – and if you couple that with the festivities of Eid, things cannot get any better. However, for many people, Eid is a quiet festival where after the first or the second day, the entire rush of meeting people goes away and you are left alone with peace. Wouldn’t it be great to have something else to do in the leisure time you have, to relax away your blues? I know I can surely use some other activities to spend my five days wisely.
Therefore, for those who have a little too much extra time this Eid, here is a list of classic movies you can watch (or re-watch) to not only pass your time and also watch them with your friends and family to have a blast.
Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Ghum
This movie is a Bollywood classic. I could watch this movie on every holiday with anyone and everyone! The movie came about 14-years-ago, but it feels like it was released just yesterday when you watch it. With an evergreen fantastic story, unforgettable dialogues and songs, and the oh-so-brilliant Shahrukh Khan, this movie always manages to make me happy. And why wouldn’t it? I mean, a star-studded cast including Amitabh Bachan, Jaya Bachan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor would definitely create a masterpiece.
This is truly one of Karan Johar’s biggest hit, which I am sure every household has watched or heard of at least once. It’s a film packed with emotions, laughter and loads of punch lines to remember for a lifetime!
Avengers- Age of Ultron
If you weren’t able to catch this movie in the cinema, now would be a great time to watch it. Actors like Robert Downey Jr. (favorite), Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L. Jackson make the perfect cast for the best of heroes avenged altogether. This is a sequel to The Avengers, which introduced superheroes like Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and Hulk to come together to work on a mission to save the world. Only this time, they encounter a new enemy and once again gather together to defeat and avenge themselves. This movie is perhaps the greatest action-packed hero film released by Marvel this year. This could be another watch, if you’re in the mood for superpowers on Eid.
Andaz Apna Apna
Just writing the name of this movie made me giggle out of nostalgia. Being a little girl, we weren’t really allowed to watch much of Bollywood but this movie set its place in the hearts of my parents as a flawless comedy film to let their kids watch. And boy, am I grateful for this. The two famous Bollywood Khans came together in this movie to win the hearts of millions of fans. The duo of Aamir Khan with Salman Khan, coupled with Raveena Tandon with Karishma Kapoor, is like a pair of comedians made in heaven. This will literally have you rolling on the floor this Eid, especially if you are watching it for the first time.
If you have been a fan of Mr. Bean (not the cartoon one version, but the original Mr. Bean) then you will definitely enjoy this film. Rowan Atkinson plays an MI5 agent, and who doesn’t love an agent on a mission to save MI5? After a sudden attack on the spy agency, Johnny English, Britain’s most confident yet unintelligent spy, becomes Britain’s only spy. His expressions and his performances outdo the movie’s comical story and is one to watch for a good laughter therapy.
Being a Pakistani, of course I would support and nominate a movie that has our land’s hero in it. Pakistan’s Prince Charming, Fawad Khan, was as flawless in Bollywood as he is here, and his chemistry with the beautiful Sonam Kapoor in this Disney movie is evident. He also won himself an IIFA Award as the best debut actor for his role. This was a sweet one to watch as the romantic comedy soothes your mind from worldly worries.
So there you have it, five excellent movies to pass your time. I hope you watch these movies this Eid and enjoy them as much as I did.
