Are you excited about having some fun under the sun this summer? But do you worry about the havoc the sun will create on your skin? Worry not. We should make the best of all four seasons. Even though Karachi goes a little overboard with summer, it shouldn’t stop us from enjoying outside, especially during those days when the weather is a mixture of a light sun and a cool steady breeze. Those days might be rare, but they do come.

If you have no choice but to be exposed to the sun, you need to take some very essential steps to avoid damaging your skin keeping in mind the UV Rays and their harmful effects.

So what is it you should do to keep the damage to a minimum?

1. Serum Application in the Morning

After cleansing your face with a face wash, apply a few drops of an antioxidant serum. By doing this you are providing your skin with the essential vitamins. It would be even better to combine it with your sunscreen. That way you can protect your skin from the wrath of UV ray’s preventing it from tanning. It also provides your skin with enough nourishment to get you through most of the day.

2. Switch to a Lighter Cleanser and Moisturizer

As summers arrive, don’t forget to buy a light cleanser and moisturizer for your skin. Why? Because in summers, your skin is not as starved for moisture as it is in the winters. It doesn’t need a thick and heavy moisturizer. If you have oily skin, this is an especially important skin care routine for you.

3. Replace Creams with Lotions

Creams are more towards heave formulations designed for arid and dry winters. Lotions are lighter and better for summers. By applying them, they don’t make you feel like you have a second skin on top. It does, however, keep you moisturized and hydrated.

4. Use Sunscreen Before Makeup

After you’ve cleansed your face and applied your primer, apply a layer of sunscreen. Make sure your sunscreen is a broad-spectrum that provides protection against UVA and UVB  Rays. UVB rays cause tanning and UVA causes premature ageing of the skin. By practicing it daily, you provide your skins it’s optimum protection.

During summer, the light intensity can get very strong, therefore, it is best to use an SPF of 30 to 50 to effectively protect your skin against the strong UV rays.

5. Replace Your Foundation with a Tinted Moisturizer

Using foundations can be a disaster for your skin in summers. You need to let your skin breathe. Keep your face clean and bare as much as you can to let it flourish. When you use foundation and go under the scorching heat, it most likely melts and clogs your pores. If you still use a foundation, replace it with a tinted moisturizer.

6. Care for Lips

The skin on your face isn’t the only part exposed to the dangers of UV rays, your lips are also exposed. They can dry out from the heat and become not so appealing. To make them soft and pink, make sure to use a lip balm with SPF 15 to provide protection. You can also rub lemon on your lips before going to bed for natural exfoliation.

7. Stay Hydrated

This is probably the best thing you can do for yourself and the easiest too. Drink 8 to 10 glasses of water to keep yourself hydrated. Did you know that your skin is the last organ to receive the water you drink? That’s why you need to drink lots of it to keep your skin hydrated. Staying hydrated can do wonders to your skin during summers.
