Latest surgery techniques discussed at PIC Heart Talk 2015

Three-day international conference on cardiac diseases titled “Heart Talk” arranged by Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) was held recently in Lahore. The conference was attended by renowned National and International specialists. The 45th annual meeting of the Pakistan Cardiac Society was also part of the event.

The conference had a very strong scientific program with surgeons from the US, Germany, UK, China, Japan, Poland and other countries delivered lectures and presented papers on the latest techniques and initiatives for the treatment and procedures.

Live angioplasty and stenting procedures were performed by senior surgeons with latest surgery techniques at PIC which were also telecasted in the conference through satellite. PIC Heart Talk is an effort to bring the health providers under one roof so that they may share and learn from each other.

The conference had a rich scientific program including Interventional Cardiology, CME for Nurses, Live Demonstration from PIC,  General Cardiology, Preventive Cardiology, Interactive Learning, Heart Failure, Cardiac patient management issues , CME for Pathology Technicians, Cardiac CT & MRI, Peripheral Vascular Disease , CME for Pathology Technicians, Electrophysiology, Pediatric Cardiology , CME for Cardiac Perfusionist and Cardiac Surgery Session , CME for Nuclear and Radiology Technicians, Nuclear Medicine, Echocardiography , CME for Electrophysiology Technicians and Electrophysiology.

The Chief Executive PIC Prof Nadeem Hayat Malik informed that the purpose of holding annual meeting and the conference was to introduce latest advancement and techniques of surgery and other procedures to the young doctors for updating their professional knowledge.

Prof Bilal Mohyud-Din informed that 30 sessions were held and 150 speakers presented their papers, out of which 20 were from other countries. He said that experience and knowledge has been shared regarding the repair of cardiac hole without surgery, replacement of cardiac valves, new techniques of angioplasty and latest advancement in the treatment of pediatric cardiac diseases. He said that soon in Pakistan, the treatment of cardiac diseases without surgery would be possible which was already practiced in many developed countries.
